Cougar Updates

September 2025

Hello Cougar Families!

We are so excited to welcome our Cougars back for another wonderful school year! The energy, smiles, and eagerness to learn are already filling our halls, and we know this year will be filled with growth, discovery, and success.

One of the most important ways we can set our students up for success is by ensuring they arrive on time and ready to learn each day. Instruction begins promptly at 9:05am, and it’s essential that students are in their seats, prepared to start the day with focus and confidence. Arriving on time not only helps your child get the most out of their learning, but it also ensures they feel part of the classroom community from the very beginning of the day.

Thank you for partnering with us in making punctuality and preparedness a priority. Together, we are building strong habits that will serve our students well both inside and outside the classroom.

We look forward to a year filled with learning, laughter, and success!

With Gratitude and Appreciation,

Ms. Lustrup, Ms. Bank, and Ms. Turner

Important Updates and Reminders:

Homecoming Parade: Saturday, September 20th

Charles Reed is participating in the Plainfield Homecoming Parade on a float this year! What an excellent opportunity to celebrate our 20 years!!!

I-Ready and ACCESS Testing Reports:

i-Ready:

i-Ready ELA and Math reports will go home this week. Please see the attached letter for a description and explanation of the testing.

* Please note this is ONE data point in your child’s achievement. In some cases, especially kindergarten, it is their first assessment. We will take the i-Ready tests again in December and May. Our goal is to see the progress of each student and to support instructional goals within the classroom. If you have questions regarding achievement please contact your child’s teacher.

** Students who read every day build stronger skills, grow their vocabulary, and consistently achieve higher in school than those who don’t. Please encourage your students to read, read with them, read for them or even model reading at home to support good habits and high achievement.

ACCESS:

ACCESS testing is an English Proficiency Test that is taken by all Multilingual learners until they reach the exit score criteria. This assessment was taken last spring and the results will be coming home soon.

Boosterthon:

This year Charles Reed will be having a fundraiser in October!! The fundraiser will help purchase a second set of soccer goals, recess equipment, and provide more experiences through assemblies to our students. This will be our one and only fundraiser by the school. The school and the PTA work differently for fundraising. The PTA will continue to host a variety of activities to the community and enrich the experiences at school and home.

Class Parties:

Mark your calendars! Charles Reed hosts three classroom parties each year. The parties are themed after the seasons and are a great time for students to play games and enjoy the annual celebrations.

Fall Party is on October 31st. There is a dress up parade with this party. More information to come.

Winter Party is on December 18th.

Spring Party is on March 27th.
