“A Caring Community Working Together to Grow as Life Long Learners”
August 2025
Dear Cougar Families,
Welcome to an exciting new school year at Charles Reed Elementary! This year is extra special as we proudly celebrate our 20th year of learning, growing, and thriving together as a Cougar community. What an incredible milestone that would not be possible without the dedication of our students, families, and staff over the past two decades.
Additionally, we would like to welcome our new Assistant Principal, Ms. Tyler Bank!! Ms. Bank has deep roots here in Plainfield as she is a Plainfield High School Central Campus graduate. Ms. Bank has spent the majority of her career in the Troy School District. We are very fortunate to have her return to Plainfield as a Charles Reed Cougar!!! Please welcome her as she looks forward to getting to know our wonderful community.
As we step into this new year, our hearts are full of excitement and gratitude. Charles Reed has always been more than just a school—it’s a family. Together, we live out our mission: A caring community working together to grow as lifelong learners. Each day, we strive to create a safe, supportive, and joyful place where every child is encouraged to dream big, try new things, and discover the joy of learning.
This 20th year is not just about celebrating the past—it’s about looking ahead to the bright future of our Cougars. We are eager to partner with you to continue building strong connections, supporting one another, and ensuring that each child feels valued and inspired.
Thank you for sharing your children with us and for being an important part of our journey. We can’t wait to celebrate this milestone year with you through learning, laughter, and lasting memories. Here’s to another amazing year at Charles Reed—where the Cougar spirit shines bright!
With excitement and Cougar pride,
Kelly Lustrup - Principal
Tyler Bank - Assistant Principal
Margaret Turner - Special Education Administrator
Reminders:
Arrival and Dismissal-
Arrival doors open at 8:50am. Students need to be in their seats by 9:05am.
Dismissal is at 3:40pm. Kindergarten will exit the building first.
It is very important to be as consistent as possible for arrival and dismissal with your students. Please review the arrival and dismissal procedures to ensure the highest level of safety for our students.
ARRIVAL & DISMISSAL PROCEDURES:
Breakfast and Lunch-
Breakfast and Lunch are FREE for ALL STUDENTS! Breakfast is grab and go in the morning. Students eat in their classrooms. Lunch is FREE but students need to make a lunch choice (3 options) in the morning. We highly encourage having students try different meals. Students may bring lunch from home AND choose a school lunch. They just need to order their lunch in the morning.
Check the website for day to day menus.
Curriculum Night and Community Resource Event-
Curriculum Night is Monday, August 25th. There are two repetitive sessions: 5:30-6:10pm and 6:20-7:00pm. This is a great opportunity for parents to hear about the curriculum and learning experiences from the teachers. It is highly recommended that students stay home while parents have the opportunity to ask questions and learn about what to expect in the upcoming school year.
While Curriculum Night starts at 5:30pm the doors to the Multipurpose room will open at 5:00 for a Community Resource Event organized by the Charles Reed PTA. This event allows parents and guardians to take advantage of learning about several resources available in the community.
